Her first day of school went great! We were excited for her to gain this new level of independence and she was so excited to meet her teacher and new friends.
Her days are very long, she leaves at 7:40 and doesn't get home until 3:30 in the afternoon, but she is handling her pure exhaustion like a champ!
Well... for the most part.
She is always such a chatterbox when she gets home, telling us what she did in gym and music, who she played with at recess, who wore what and who did what! Being our first to go to school, it is a little bizarre to not be a part of her day to day, but it is soooo fun listening to her perspective on it all. Not to mention how much homework has changed, for the most part, it is all online now. She has learning and practice lessons, and even graded quizzes online. Times are changin' and Ben and I are having to learn along with her and how to better set up a system of schedules, due dates and timelines.
We have never had to worry one minute about this girl. Avery has always been driven, strong-willed and very independent. She has an incredible way of adjusting to new situations and I knew Kindergarten would be no different and I was well prepared for that moment. But when she decided she wanted to ride the bus, instead of me taking her to school and picking her up, I have to admit, my heart broke a little.. or a lot! But she is loving it and even gets to sit by a girl, named Kathryn, who wears "something fancy every. day!", as Avery says.
She really is growing up much too fast. But the highlight of our day has become 3:30 when she gets off that bus and has all sorts of new stories and adventures to share.
